The talented singer’s first break in Bollywood film industry came with a song in, Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar starrer, Shaadi ke Side Effects, where she sang the romantic number, "Desi Romance" with Arijit Singh composed by Pritam.
Her rise to international fame began, when music composer, Thomas Newman, invited her to sing and Co-write the score for the golden globe award nominee film, "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" and also its sequel, "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel".
"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" and "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" was recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios, London.
